Vista Prairie Communities Enhances Senior Care with AI CarePredict

|

Leading the way with artificial intelligence, Vista Prairie Communities is the only senior living community provider in Minnesota using CarePredict with TempoTM wearables. Currently in place in 4 of our communities including Willmar (Vista Prairie at Copperleaf), Fairmont (Vista Prairie at Goldfinch Estates), and Redwood Falls (Vista Prairie at Garnette Gardens) and also in Sheldon, Iowa (Vista Prairie at Fieldcrest), Vista Prairie plans to launch CarePredict at all of our communities! CarePredict allows nursing staff to detect early warning signs in residents at risk for declining health and enables staff to intervene before problems can occur.

Predictive insights

Helping senior care shift from being reactive to proactive, CarePredict’s AI and deep-learning models detect precursors to declines in health. The Tempo wearable is worn around the wrist and uses sensors and unique kinematic algorithms to detect a person’s activities and behaviors, providing insights to changes in routine or habits that could signal a change in health. It looks for patterns that are out of the ordinary such as when a resident frequents the bathroom more often or has become more sedentary. These insights are presented to staff via a dashboard. These proactive measures resulted in an impressive reduction in UTI cases across our communities.

Fall detection

The Tempo uses a machine learning model to understand falls and learn over time to reduce false positives. Staff are alerted when a fall occurs and when staff confirm the fall, the Tempo learns and becomes more accurate. There is also a sensitivity level of fall detection that can be tuned for each individual from low to very high, based on their fall risk. The adaptive system also can increase sensitivity for certain people in specific locations such as the bathroom or bedroom or wherever there is a known history of falls.

Contact tracing

With every staff member and resident wearing a Tempo, contact tracing is simplified. If an infection like COVID-19 is discovered, the CarePredict system can identify every person who was recently in contact with the infected individual. The CarePredict system can show where an infected person may have spent more time and identify others who may have spent time in that area. Using this digital contact tracing system results in fewer cases of COVID-19 than conventional mitigation methods, meaning fewer residents must be isolated or communities locked down.

The Tempo

The Tempo has no display but has a large, easy-to-find button and announces the time, day of the week, and battery level when the button is pushed. When a resident needs help, they can hold the button for 3 seconds and use the 2-way audio feature to speak with staff. The Tempo also alerts staff with the resident’s name and location so the closest staff can attend to them quickly. The Tempo never needs to be taken off the wrist as the swappable, rechargeable battery can easily be replaced.

With this proactive care measure in place, negative outcomes are reduced and assistance is expedited when needed. The CarePredict system helps monitor for precursors to serious health concerns while providing valuable information to help staff take better care of our residents.
